The Technologies that Keep You Safe in Kia Vehicles

Eight Kia models were awarded the IIHS’ Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick + awards in 2022 as a testament to their high level of active and passive safety. One factor that contributes in making Kia vehicles so safe is their large number of advanced safety features, of which here are a few.

The Smart Cruise Control

Almost every Kia model in the lineup is available with the Smart Cruise Control system, which is safer and more convenient than regular cruise control since it can adjust to the speed of the vehicle in front in order to always keep a safe following distance. This system is also capable of bringing the vehicle to a complete stop and then bringing it back up to speed when the vehicle in front moves away, which makes it safe to use in bumper-to-bumper traffic. On some Kia vehicles, this system can also receive information via the navigation system in order to adapt automatically to the speed limit and to slow down ahead of curves.

The Safe Exit Assist

Many new Kia models are equipped with this technology that helps prevent injuries to inattentive passengers by warning occupants when a door is opened while a vehicle is coming up being the car. This system can also prevent the rear doors from opening in this situation by activating the electronic child locks, which is an added safety if you have young children that have a tendency to open their doors without checking if a vehicle is coming.

The Blind-Spot View Monitor

One of the more unique features that can be ordered on a number of Kia vehicles is the Blind-Spot View Monitor. In addition to warning you when a vehicle is in your blind spot, this system uses cameras on each side to display a live video feed of the space to the rear ¾ of your vehicle when the turn signals are used in order to help you see vehicles that are in the blind spot better so you can judge if you have enough space to perform a lane change without having to guess.
